After owning a Jeep Compass, two Grand Cherokees, and now a 2024 Wrangler 4xe, I know what it means to keep choosing the same brand. I also know what it feels like to lose confidence in it. That is why a recent Car and Driver report on Jeep’s declining sales caught my attention.

According to Car and Driver’s October 2, 2026 report, Jeep’s U.S. sales declined 20 percent in the third quarter compared with the same period in 2025, leaving the brand down 8 percent through September. The publication also reported declines of 62 percent for the Compass, 30 percent for the Grand Cherokee, and 96 percent for the Wagoneer S, which recorded 146 sales during the quarter.

The picture is not uniform. The manufacturer’s published sales figures show Wrangler sales increased 5 percent during the quarter. Those figures do not separate the 4xe from other Wrangler versions, so they cannot tell us how the plug-in hybrid performed individually.

What also caught my attention was the presentation of the company’s sales announcement. Its opening emphasizes steady companywide sales and selected areas of growth, while Jeep’s 20 percent quarterly decline appears in the accompanying table. The numbers are disclosed, but the emphasis stood out to me. As an owner who has struggled to get answers, I would have appreciated a more direct acknowledgment of the challenges facing the Jeep brand.

There is another development that matters to owners like me. In a separate January 2026 report, Car and Driver confirmed that the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe were being discontinued beginning with the 2026 model year. A Stellantis spokesperson cited shifting customer demand as the company moved away from those plug-in hybrid offerings in North America. For someone who chose a Wrangler 4xe believing in its promise, that decision adds to the disappointment.

Together, these developments make me wonder whether other buyers are reconsidering their relationship with Jeep. Sales figures alone cannot tell us why someone chose a different vehicle or postponed a purchase. They do not establish that buyers share my concerns about ownership or customer support.

What I can speak to is my own experience: recall concerns, troubling vehicle behavior, and attempts to get answers that left me feeling unheard. After several Jeeps in our family, that experience has changed how I view the brand. A familiar name and fond memories only carry so much weight when confidence in the vehicle begins to fade.

Perhaps others are asking some of the same questions. That is why I share our experience at WranglingAnswers.com: to help people consider what ownership might look like beyond the showroom, including what happens when something goes wrong.

Loyalty brought our family back to Jeep repeatedly. The 4XE and customer support changed our view.
